UC DECA Competes in International Competition

DECA-800x450
Congratulations to the UCJSHS DECA students! Emalee Bocanegra, Reagan Hoggatt, Sophia Spence, and Sydney Ralston qualified for the International DECA Competition in Orlando, Florida. The students, and DECA adviser, Ms. Becky Kuehl, arrived on Friday, April 26th and came home on Wednesday, May 1st.

The young ladies attended the School-Based Enterprise Academy and presented while we were there. The young ladies were recognized with an Award of Excellence. They did not make the finals but both groups scored above an 80% on their presentation. This is the first time that both groups have been recognized in the same year.

While in Orlando, we visited Disney Springs, Universal Studios and Islands of Adventure, Cocoa Beach, and Walt Disney World.

Ms. Becky Kuehl wants to thank all of you for your continued support of Union City DECA. Our small school makes a name for itself in lots of ways. Ms. Kuehl is extremely proud to be part of that.

NS The Leader in Me Parent Survey

NS-The-Leader-in-Me
North Side is implementing a whole-school transformational process called the Leader in Me, which teaches 21st-century leadership and life skills to students and creates a culture of student empowerment based on the idea that every child can be a leader. North Side will be conducting surveys to learn more about key areas of strength and areas of needed growth in our school. The data from these surveys will also help us track the impacts of the Leader in Me process and implement key practices more fully. In order for us to have a whole picture of what is going on at school, we are asking all staff members, parents/guardians and students in grades 4-6 to participate. (No identifying information is collected with the surveys.)

North Side parents and guardians are asked to complete this survey.

Thank you!

UCHS Alumni Association to Celebrate Classes of 1969, 1994, and 2019

Alumni-Banquet
143rd Annual Alumni Banquet Slated
By Brad Hoggatt, RESC Correspondent

On Saturday, May 25, 2019, the Alumni Association of Union City Community High School (Wayne Township, Jackson Township, and city of Union City) will be celebrating their graduates by hosting the 143rd annual Alumni Banquet. An evening of fun and fellowship, all graduates are invited to attend as special recognition will be given to the classes of 1969, 1994, and 2019. John Lowe, graduate from the 50-year class of 1969, will be featured speaker for the evening’s event.

Though the meal is to begin at 6 p.m. in the UCJSHS Gym Foyer, several self-guided tours have been organized for attendees and community friends to visit. From 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., guests can stroll the halls of Union City Junior/ Senior High School, rekindling memories of yesteryear and experiencing what the world of education looks like today for its students. The Old Hotel Museum at 103 North Columbia Street in downtown Union City will also be open for guests to peruse the many collectibles and artifacts that celebrate Union City. Finally, a tour guide will be available at Hoosier Place Apartments for anyone wishing to see how the former West Side Middle School has been successfully transformed into a beautiful living facility. A gathering at the Historic Union City Art Depot, graciously sponsored by the Class of 1969, will take place from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m.

For guests returning to Union City, or for community friends simply wishing to be out and about on this special day, there are many other area attractions not to miss. Throughout the day, numerous garage sales will be taking place. Maps are available through the Union City Chamber of Commerce. The Art Hub and The Carol Strock-Wasson Gallery, both located on Columbia Street, are stops not to miss. Collectors of antiques will also surely enjoy the numerous shops around town sporting various artifacts of times gone by.

The Alumni Association kindly reminds everyone who wishes to attend that reservations for the meal are due by Wednesday, May 15 and can be made by mail, using the recently mailed printed invitation or by going online to www.Action123.us/UCAlumni. Tickets are $20 per person and include the evening’s festivities as well as a delicious, catered meal provided by Bouser’s Barn in Union City, Indiana. If questions arise, interested individuals can contact Aaron Black, RESC Superintendent, or Bill Corbin, President of the UCHS Alumni Association.
